SUA now has a new Cultural Interest Group (CIG) called “Citizenship and Language” that will provide guidance on a members-only webpage and through Zoom meetings that will connect SUA members with resources in the US and Slovenia.

This CIG has been paused for restructuring and future program planning.

Based on the experiences of SUA members and other subject matter experts who have successfully applied, the website will offer guidance for documenting ancestry, obtaining apostilles and background checks, or hiring a lawyer in Slovenia to oversee an application.

Dual citizenship can open up possibilities for free or low-cost higher education, ease of travel restrictions, and limiting the amount of red tape involved with living, studying, working, or retiring in Slovenia.

If you have a parent or grandparent who was born in what is now Slovenia, you might have considered applying for dual citizenship in the USA and EU through your Slovenian ancestry.

Membership in Slovenian Union of America (SUA) can help you meet the requirements.

Learning the Slovene language can be helpful for anyone seeking a deeper connection with the homeland of our ancestors. The Citizenship and Language group plans to organize events for Slovenian language learners and provide resources for further study and practice.
